There are similar themes in these films:
- Set in school about teenage issues
- Sense of stereotypes (popular and unpopular) but within the story its about breaking out of the groups especially The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink
- Carefree and young, with a sense of rebellion (The Breakfast Club)
- Has a romantic theme
- Mostly seem to have wealthy parents and good living
Music:
- Synth very electronic sounding music
- Male and female vocals
- Band look like they are a band - matching style of outfits, make-up for both males and females
- Unrealistic "plastic" look to room and instruments - everything same grey covering to try to make it look like its not a normal room also makes the band stand out
- Simple performance video
Fashion:
"The creation of MTV revolutionized fashion, the music industry and even how we watched TV. For others it was nothing but bad hair, worse clothing and music that often had more to do with machines than talent. The clothes worn in the 80s depicted people who were trying to find themselves. They looked for ways to express their creativity and individuality. Men wore heavy make up and grew long hair. Women wore short hair and layers of clothing. Both sexes were looking for an identity." There was a continued interest in bright fluorescent colours that had started in the 70's and high-waisted stonewashed jeans became increasingly popular.
